Reading Nook – Project examples

With winter here we find ourselves being drawn to warm cozy spaces in our homes. At W2 we love designing spaces for our clients to enjoy and adapt to as the seasons change.

A reading space is one that can be integrated into a wall, it can utilise a dead or unused space, or make a feature. We have some wonderful projects that may serve as inspiration for your own reading nook design.

Integrate your reading space with your living space. Bespoke book shelves and TV unit as one piece of joinery is an elegant way to add a library to your home that fits perfectly. This particular design allows the reader to nestle up by the fire and enjoy that stunning view, while also being in the centre of their home. We love the way this joinery wraps around the corner providing a lovely transition to the hallway. You can also display trinkets and travel collections amongst the books.

A wall of books serving as a library, adds colour to the room, and sneaks in storage! These spaces can be transitional e.g a hallway nook, a little extra space at the end of your bedroom, or on a landing at the top of the stairs. Find a little window for natural light or add a quirky reading light, these walls of books are like art pieces for our keen readers.

Make the best of ceiling heights! This reading space uses and accentuates a design feature of the room, a lovely double ceiling height. Used to showcase our clients book collection this bookcase is an elegant design feature. In spaces like this you can also optimise it with outlets – so you can charge your devices while reading or sneaking a cat nap by the fire.
